Setting the Example Essay - 1252 Words

Strong leadership is critical to an organizations success. Leaders need to be honest, trustworthy, respected, and good communicators (Montana Mitchell, 2005, p. 83). Effective communication is necessary to eliminate confusion. Think how the receiver will interpret the message that you are saying or writing. Effective communication can only occur when the receiver of the message understands what the sender is intending to say. Anyone can manage but not everyone makes a good leader. â€Å"Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent† (Clark, 2010, p. 1). As a leader, inspire your employees by being passionate yourself.†¦show more content†¦While my twenty-five year old manager did not have children at the time of her audit, I explained I do have a child at home. Being a single mother it is my responsibility to be there for my child regardless of whether she is one or sixteen. It is not fair to ask me to work so much overtime while my leader was not willing to work any extra time. Immediately I went to upper management. My lieutenant called a meeting between us and essentially stated we needed to work it out between the two of us. Knowing this could be a potential career ending move if I did not have a successful accreditation audit, I did what I had to do to get the job done... by myself. At one point I worked seven days per week for seven weeks straight. Needles to say, I ended up working 800 hours overtime that year to prepare our agency. We passed our audit with the best score ever; however, I could not revel in the success. I had never in my life been so disappointed in my leaders. Not having the support of my managers created enormous stress not only in my professional life but in my personal life. I felt I had let my daughter down and I had nowhere to go. My spirit was broken. I was exhausted and burned out. Being the sole supporter financially for my family, I also felt trapped. To this day, I am extremely disappointed in the way that the situation was handled by my leaders. 1. Introduction Social entrepreneurship within New Zealand, is a relatively new sector. Thus, it is largely an undeveloped field, and highly lacking in literary writing. The aim of this report is to clarify social entrepreneurships’ characterization and how it is defined within the New Zealand sector. Furthermore, it aims to examine constraints that an independent investor, wanting to start-up a social enterprise, in New Zealand may encounter in the current environment, including funding options. Along with the trends and factors in the macro-environment might encounter. These findings are further backed with New Zealand statistics on social enterprises, economy and social. Finishing with a recommendation based on the findings covered within. 1.1.
